365 Day Photo Project – Day 8

As promised, here is the second post for today.   I have been playing around with textures a lot and really liked the old crinkly photo look for this picture.  What do you think?

  1. Great composition!

    Hope this constructive suggestion(s) helps,
Its something that was drilled into me at my old photography class, photos should stand on their own before stylizing. It REALLY makes you plan the shot before you click. With the large field of photographers out there and the proliferation of Photoshop/editors – effects and styles are getting gimicky.

    For just ONE week:

*) No Photoshop post processing at all, ie:
    – Hue/Sat, brightness/contrast, darkened corners, artificial blurring/sharpening,filters etc.
*) Compose within the viewfinder, no post cropping.

I know its a pain to think about f-stop, iso, brackets when you know you can patch it up later.

    Just my two cents.

    • Thanks JS. I do agree, I go too crazy with the editing definitely and prob rely on it more than I should . I will take 1 week to do what u said and I’ll post them each day to hold myself accountable to actually do it….starting Monday :). Thx again.

  2. OH wow Nick, what about the constructive criticism that JS offered struck you as mean? I’m heavily into Photoshopping, and what JS wrote is one of those things that make you go “Hmmmm.” But I’m not even sure if I’m capable, with the camera I have, of doing the things she suggests for one week. If I can’t do my auto leveling and brightness contrast, then my photos stink on ice.

    • No worries, nick and JS go way back. JS understands, but thx for standing up for my commenters :). I really am going to try this out this week on my blog and u should too. Our shots may suck but it will make us work harder for the right shot :).
