365 Day Photo Project – Day 40 :: Fun with Lighting

Last night in my photography class we started working with studio lighting and I think I have found a new obsession. I couldn’t wait to put some of the techniques I learned into action today, but sadly, I don’t have any professional lighting equipment in my home. Luckily I do have lots of random lighting laying around the house to mess with. So, I found a headlight that my husband uses when bicycling at night and a hot lamp type nightlight that Buddy #1 uses to go to sleep. The only thing small enough lying around to use as my subject was his toy car.  Good enough, right?  I put the car on my dining room table and angled the lights in a way to I thought set a mood of “late night driving” in my photo.

What do you think, did I do ok for my first lighting experiment?  I like how the nightlight turned the rims of the car gold (they’re silver) and how this toy car looks like it’s actually going somewhere.
